May 24-26 ~ Cheyenne Depot Days

Memorial Day Weekend - Friday – The Museum will offer free admission for UP employees (current & retired) and the UP Historical Society. The Rocky Mountain Division Train Collectors Association will have their display in the lobby from 9am to 7pm. Vendors will be on display in the lobby from 9am to 7pm. A free concert will be held from 5:30am to 8pm on the Depot Plaza. Saturday – The Hobo Breakfast will be served to the community from 7:30am to 9am on the Depot Plaza. The Memorial Day Parade begins at 9:30am. A Railroad Vendor Show will be on display at the Holiday Inn Cheyenne from 9am to 5pm. Vendors will be offering model railroad accessories. The model railroad display will continue in the lobby from 9am to 5pm. The vendors will continue in the lobby from 8am to 7pm. The Lion’s Train will be at the Depot to offer children’s rides after the parade until 12pm. Union Pacific will have the Round House open to the public from 10am to 5pm. Several locomotives and equipment will be available for viewing. The UP Mini Train will provide rides to families, and the Souvenir Car will also be available for the public. The Sherman Hills Model Railroad Club display will be available in the Round House for viewing as well. We hope you put these events on your calendars. For families with children, we encourage you to participate in the “Build a Train” Project!

Laramie County School District #1

East High School

  • Prudential Spirit of Community medallion will be presented to senior Elizabeth Whetstone on Tuesday, May 6, at 9:45 a.m., by Clayton Gray, a Prudential representative. For more information contact Gray at 635-2744.

Triumph High School

  • May 5, teen parents from all three LCSD1 high schools will travel to Sculpture Park in Loveland, Colo., and the Discover Center in Fort Collins, Colo. Students will discover activities they can do with their children and how to extend learning opportunities.

Afflerbach Elementary

  • Fourth-graders will tour the Territorial Park in Laramie on Monday, May 5, from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • Third- and fourth-grade Trailblazer students will visit the COMEA Shelter on Monday, May 5, at 9 a.m.
  • Second-grade students will give presentations on Thursday, May 8, from 9–10:15 a.m., on their tour of the Dinosaur Museum.
  • Fifth- and sixth-grade Trailblazer students will visit the Laramie County Library on Thursday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m.

Anderson Elementary

  • Fourth-grade classes will go to Fort Laramie on Wednesday, May 7, from 7:45 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • On Thursday, May 8, from 2–3 p.m., fourth-graders will square dance and have a pie social in the gym.

Arp Elementary

  • There will be a puppet show on Wednesday, May 7, at 9 a.m., for kindergarten–third grade, and 9:30 a.m., for fourth- through sixth-grade students.
  • The show will be performed by Laramie County Library staff members.
  • Arp student council will sponsor a Jog-A-thon on Friday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m. Proceeds will go toward new playground equipment.

Bain Elementary

  • Jan Brett, author and illustrator of children’s books, will spend the day at Bain on Tuesday, May 6. Brett will work with students during the day, and the public is invited to meet her from 2:30–4 p.m., in the gym.
  • A bird-bath auction and potluck dinner will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. Fourth- through sixth-grade students made bird baths to raise money for the Cheyenne Botanic Garden’s Children’s Garden. Western Auction staff will be conducting the auction for approximately 70 bird baths.

Dildine Elementary

  • Due to inclement weather, Dildine’s PTO neighborhood cleanup activity on Thursday, May 1 was rescheduled for Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m.
